A new quilt and a mishap - Ein neuer Quilt und ein Missgeschick - un nuovo quilt e una sbadataggine

Being busy finishing Steps I - III has not stopped me starting a new quilt. This is the fabric I was going to use, i.e. how it looked before I pre-washed it.

And this is what came out of the washing machine! Because I made the mistake of adding another kind of fabric they came out all discolored. The picture doesn't really show it well but believe me, what was white before came out sort of beigegreengrey. After recovery from the shock I decided I was going to use them anyway. We'll see where this leads to.

Vedremo come andrà.

Because I'll be working with triangles, I'm thinking of starting a new series, and I'm tired of coming up with names, I'll simply call this one T1.

Azzurro goes Blogger's Quilt Festival

Glad to have learnt of this online Blogger's Quilt Festival! Thanks to Amy for organizing it and thank you qvilted for pointing it out to me!

This is my first time participating. I'm entering Azzurro to the Original Design Category.

I designed Azzurro completely on my design wall. It is made of silk scraps, two vintage silk dresses,  vintage cotton linen, various purchased solid cottons and my imagination. I started by sewing the blue and the orange log cabin blocks, arranged them on the wall shifting around until I liked it. Then I filled up the inbetween spaces with the red toned solids.

I like to incorporate the leftovers in the design of the back of my quilts. I'm particularly pleased by how this one turned out.

The quilt measures 70 x 54 inches. It is machine pieced and quilted.

If you like you can see and read more about the quilt and the making of here.

Creux du Van 2/2

part two     -     Teil zwei     -     seconda parte

Creux du Van 1/2

Two weeks ago we went on a full day hike to Creux du Van. The hike is pretty demanding but when after three hours of steep climp you reach the top, you should get rewarded with this kind of a view. Well, it's not what we got since we decided to go on a foggy day but hey, it's been still more than worth the effort. I would even call it magic. Sorry for the amount of pictures but I just couldn't resist.

A me mi è parso incantevole.

Tokyo // 6 and last

To me the only downside of traveling is that sewing has to be put aside for a while. To compensate it has become a habit of mine to check out fabric stores where ever I go. I don't buy a lot of fabric on these trips but enough to add a little something to my stash for future projects. The day I'll pull out some of it, memories of the trip will come back and and in a way or another be woven into the quilt I'll be making. Imagine my pleasure when I found out that Tokyo has a whole district with more than 80 (!) shops selling all kind of fabrics. It even has its own map!

Lucky who knows what to look for and does not get lost in time and space.

Back home I love to put everything on my table and enjoy the sight for a while before stowing it away for those future special moments.

My prior to the trip internet research on the topic led me to this blog post that was extremely helpful to me. Thank you Alyce!

Grazie Alyce!
