I am happy that I'm not going to start the new year with empty hands.
I have this finished epp quilt top waiting to be backed and hand quilted.
And I also have this hand piecing top to be completed.
And since these are both hand sewing projects it also means that I can soon start designing and machine piecing a new project!
And with these thrilling news I'd like to wish you all a very happy and healthy new year. And lots of creativity!

Crux // 8 and last !
Crux is all done! A black and white quilt only. But with still a lot going on in my humble opinion. Difficult to photograph though. Hopefully this pics will convey some of the details that are there to discover. A quiet quilt at first sight but rich with details at a closer look. Be it in the white on white prints, be it within the quilting.
Hand pieced and machine quilted. With only 130 x 100 cm one of my smallest quilts. But one that gave me a lot to think about in terms of design choices.

Lima // 3
Lima is growing. This is the hand sewing project I started during a trip to Lima last August. I started by just sewing these stars. I have almost reached the final amount of stars and meanwhile I also have a plan for the spaces in between and maybe for the borders as well.
I have decided to postpone the hand quilting of Infinity shown in the previous post as I really want to see how my plan will turn out for this top.

Infinity // 1
Last time this wip made an appearance it was still on my design wall. Meanwhile the top is complete and all the papers have been removed. I may even start hand quilting it still this year. But that remains to be seen as I don't have the backing yet.

Stripes I is finished !
I'm very happy with how this quilt turned out. Designing it has been such an enjoyable process and I'm pleased by the result. Of course the happy colors really helped making it fun. I gave myself just a few parameters like always include five stripes each per block and started to improvise. Adding the black and white fabric helped to bring the blocks together visually but also technically where space between blocks needed to be filled. First time I used partial seams when joining blocks and it won't be the last.
This quilt has been machine pieced and machine quilted. It measures 150 x 130 cm.

Crux // 6
It's been a while since I posted about Crux. I finished this top last May and it has been patiently waiting to be picked up again. Partly because I was doing other projects in the meantime but also because it has given me a hard time to decide on the quilting. Meanwhile the quilting is almost done and I'm still not convinced about my decision. This quilt really deserves its name!
This is the current stage
I could also have stopped here
Or I could have quilted it with black thread? Or black&white variegated thread? Or again a different color at all? Or chosen a completely different quilting design??
I really liked this stage though
But this moment is gone and can't come back.
Now all I can do is decide if I'm done quilting.

Stripes I
I finished quilting my improv stripes quilt and I'm working on the binding. I am really in love with this quilt and the freshness and happiness it transmits. Also I really enjoyed the design process with the improv stripes. I'm thinking this will not be my last stripes quilt and so I'm naming it Stripes I.

Progress update
In the meantime I have started to quilt the improv stripes quilt. I'll be sewing "straight" lines in an irregular grid form. I think I'm going to like it! Still thinking about the name for this quilt...

Dishtowel with a personal touch
Recently I needed a little present to bring to a fried I was visiting. I wanted something practical with a handmade touch but that wouldn't require too much time for making. I resorted to something I've done in the past and that has been well received.
I had a ready made dish towel I had bought in the past.
I cut away the hem and sewed together a scrappy binding as I would do for binding a quilt. Only in this case I made the binding one folded.

I brought out my scrap bin containing strips.

And tada! In little time I had a cute little present with my personal touch.

Progress update
While I have been silent on this platform for the past four weeks I have made quite some progress in the studio. Those who follow me on Instagram already know what I'm talking about and won't learn anything new. For the others this is what happened.
I made some good progress with my epp project and as usual I really enjoy looking at the back of such a project. All those lovely seams that will soon disappear in the layers of the finished quilt.
And with the growing of this epp top I got room back on my design wall. This enabled me to also work on the project I first talked about here.
What started as an experiment by just sewing strips together as leaders and enders while working on Nelly grew to a finished top of its own right. It's been a fun process with these improv strips. Not only with the top itself but also with the fun progress on my wall.
I'm really happy with this top. With its cheerful colors it is uplifting to look at. So fun how the wall has changed during the last four weeks.
And this is all that's left of the epp pieces to be sewn together. Soon I'll have another finished top!
And with Crux I'll have three tops waiting to be backed, layered, basted, and quilted!
See you again in a couples week!
