Hope // 7 and last !

I'm so happy I was able to finish Hope still before the end of the year. I started it in October 2015 and it's been a companion since. This quilt is filled with meaning and close to my heart so finishing the year with Hope means a lot to me. Never stop hoping!

With this I've been able to complete all my quilty works in progress. The New Year will be a new start on a blank page or should I say on a blank cutting table.

Thank you for stopping by and your interest in my work. Wishing you all a happy and healthy New Year!

Hope // 6

I haven't shown any progress on Hope here for a while. It is my goal to have it finished before the end of the year. I think I will succeed. I'm done with 90% of the hand quilting and even the binding is already attached. Just putting the last stitches!

Maybe you'll enjoy some pictures of the progress this far.

After almost ten years of quilting this is the first time I closed the binding also with a diagonal seam. Always cheated here so far and went straight but Hope with all its diagonal seams was screaming for it.

At this point I could have called it finished. Instead I decided to add some more quilting between the quilted diamonds.

Fingers crossed final reveal still this year! I'd love to close the year with Hope.

Cushion cover

Three years ago I made my quilt Dresda. I kept the triangle leftovers from joining the strips. Now that I needed a new cushion cover I thought of them. It took me a while to figure out a pleasing layout. I always have such a hard time to make up my mind. But once I settled on one the pillow was quickly made. It's fun to have a quick and easy project from time to time.

And with this I'd like to wish a Merry Christmas to those celebrating and a nice weekend to all the others.

Foulard IV // 3 and last !

It's done. My series of four Foulards is herewith complete! It's been a fine and joyful journey. There is something liberating to work with repurposed fabrics and a kind of improvisational piecing. These are all fabrics gained from old bed sheets, duvet and pillow covers, and similar fabrics from around the house. I love newly bought quilting cottons. But I simply adore the transformation of something used and old into something new. It's like getting a second chance. And maybe even a third. Yet knowing that one day it will be all over.

Foulard III // 4 and last !

I'm making good progress with my Foulard series and have completed number three. Some fabrics are the same as in I and II. But I've chosen a much darker one for contrast. While number I and II have a more subtle light to dark contrast, in III and IV the contrast is much stronger. Today I can show pictures of Foulard III. It will take another week or two and number IV will be completed too.

Foulard II // 5 and last !

I guess I'm confusing you with my Foulard series. I am working on them in parallel steps and since I show pictures of the progress I keep switching back and forth among them. Sorry if I'm making it hard on you but this is just the way how I work. You are on the journey with me if you keep following me. You can always go to my Quilts page if you prefer to see only the finished quilts.

Here now and for the first time pictures of the finished Foulard II:

As of now I've completed Foulard I and II and I'm working on the binding of Foulard III.
Foulard IV is waiting and wondering what kind of backing it will get. Me too.

Foulard III // 3

Made progress on quilting Foulard III.

And attached the binding to the front.

Just need to finish hand sewing it to the back and Foulard III will be completed.

Foulard II // 4

I finished quilting Foulard II and I'm working on the binding right now.

I also basted Foulard III and will start the quilting later today.

I'm liking the current setting in my sewing studio. Foulard II on the sewing table being bound. Foulard III on the table, basted and waiting to be quilted. Foulard IV on the design wall waiting and wondering what kind of backing it will get. Love this stadium!

And today I leave you with autumnal greetings from my home town Basel...

... and my little garden.

Have a great week!

Foulard I // 4 and last !

And voilà! The completed Foulard I. Quilted with horizontal straight lines in the light center and framed by straight lines in the dark border. This has been such fun to make.
Vintage linens and other recycled cloths brought to new life.
