Scraps III // 1

Recently I started a new quilt using scraps of previous projects to add to solid whites. I'm making log cabins inspired by pictures I saw on Instagram. This is a very enjoyable, quick and easy project and a welcome change from my hand sewing epp Diamond quilt.

Meaning - Bedeutung - Significato

I participated in a challenge by #inspiredbybeesewcial over on Instagram. The task war to create two minimalistic blocks in black and white and with a meaning. I made these two:

Open up!     -      Öffnet euch!     -     Apritevi!

The Fleetingness of the Moment     -     Die Flüchtigkeit des Augenblicks     -     La sfuggevolezza del momento

Some wip pics     -     Ein paar work in progress Aufnahmen     -     alcune foto della creazione

Ste Marie aux Mines, Alsace, France

Last year around this time I was traveling in Japan and missed the European Patchwork Meeting in France. Not this year though. Last Friday I saw some extraordinary quilts, antiques and contemporary ones, traditional and modern ones. Simply enjoyed a wonderful day among like minded people and not least with great shopping opportunities.

Diamond // 6

Yesterday I spent the whole day trying to decide on the final layout for my Diamond quilt. I took the blocks downstairs to play around on the floor. Unintentionally when I had all the blocks in a tray a star appeared. That made me want to try out a layout featuring some stars. I spent a lot of time with that because who doesn't like stars, right? At the end however it didn't completely convince me. I'm having a hard time with these blocks. Each is a beautiful unit in itself and demands to shine. I'm trying to find a layout that underlines the individuality of each block. After seven hours of layout trials I think I have settled on a way to proceed. It's represented in the last picture. I took everything back to the design wall and I'm building on that now. It will change again during the way but I think I'm sticking to this basic layout. It reminds me of strings of diamonds hanging down.

And here is part two.     -     Und hier der zweite Teil.     -      E la seconda parte.

And of course my kind of travel souvenir!

A flattering surprise ! Sew cute !

I've been following Alyce's blog Blossom Heart Quilts for almost a year now. A reading I can truly recommend. You get a lot of quilting inspiration and even tutorials. And since my trip to Japan last fall, for which I found tremendously useful fabric shopping tips on her blog, I also enjoy seeing bits and pieces from Japan.
Every Tuesday she runs a link-up event on her blog called Sew Cute Tuesday.

Several times in the past I've linked up my work as well.
She always starts the post by showcasing a few works from other quilters before getting to the link up section.
Well, guess what! While I was scrolling through her posts of the last couple of weeks I came across this

So cool to see my Kernel being presented on her blog post. Thanks Alyce for this flattering surprise !
