Nadelwelt 2014

Last Sunday I went to Nadelwelt Karlsruhe, which is a two hour drive from home. My first stop is always the halls with the international exhibitions before shopping through the hundreds of seller's stalls. As you know I'm currently working with fabric taken from used men's shirts. What a coincidence then that the first exhibit I walked into was one of antique quilts made exactly of the same starting material. Only in this case the fabrics were leftovers taken from the shirt factory where these quilters used to work some hundred years ago in Inishowen, Ireland.
Here are a few pictures of this and that of my day.

Letzten Sonntag besuchte ich die Nadelwelt Karlsruhe. Als erstes gehe ich immer in die Ausstellung der internationalen Werke, bevor ich durch die vielen Verkaufsstände schlendere. Zurzeit arbeite ich ja mit gebrauchten Herrenhemden und was für ein Zufall, dass die erste Ausstellung, in die ich hinein spazierte gerade eine mit alten Quilts aus eben diesem Stoff war. In diesem Fall handelt es sich aber um Stoffresten, die die Arbeiterinnen aus der Hemdenfabrik mit nach Hause nehmen konnten. Das ganze spielte sich vor ca. 100 Jahren in Inishowen, Irland ab.
Hier ein paar Eindrücke von diesem und jenem meines Tages.

Domenica scorsa ho visitato Nadelwelt Karlsruhe. Prima di immergermi nella centinaia di stand da vendita mi godo sempre l'esposizione delle opere internazionali. Come sapete attualmente lavoro con stoffe prese da camicie usate. Che coincidenza quindi che la prima esposizione che ho visto mostrava appunto quilt antichi fatti proprio con stoffe da camicie. Solo che qui si tratta di resti di stoffe nuove che le lavoratrici prendevano dalla fabbrica di camicie nella quale lavoravano circa cento anni fa a Inishowen in Irlanda.
