Défis textiles II // 2

I was fascinated by the transparency, shine, and change of colors of the material. First I thought I could work with layers, where cuts in the upper layer would reveal something surprising underneath. But my helpless attempts with some other similar material I had didn't convince me at all!

Transparenz, Glanz und Farbenspiel des Materials haben mich fasziniert. Ich dachte, ich könnte etwas mit Schichten machen. Ich schneide Öffnungen in die obere und lasse darunter Interessantes hervor blitzen. Aber meine hilflosen Versuche mit ähnlichem Material haben mich überhaupt nicht überzeugt!

Trasparenza, lucentezza e gioco di colore di questo materiale mi piace molto. Dapprima ho pensato che potrei lavorare con strati. Tagliando in quello di sopra per fare apparire qualcosa sorprendente di sotto. Ma i miei umili tentativi con un simile materiale che avevo non mi hanno convinta affatto!

Then I looked for other fabric to go along with. First I found a print with similar colors of which I thought that the romantic, ornamental print would be a good match with the delicate organza. Also I thought that the white would provide a good contrast.

Also habe ich nach anderen Stoffen gesucht, die ich dazu kombinieren könnte. Zuerst habe ich diesen mit ähnlichen Farben bedruckten gefunden. Mir schien, dass das romantische Rankenmuster gut zur Zartheit des Organza passt und das Weiss ein guter Kontrast bieten würde.

Poi ho cercate altre stoffe da accoppiare. Prima ho trovato questa stampata con simili colori. Mi è parso che il motivo romantico si abbini bene con la delicatezza dell'organza e il bianco dia un buon contrasto.

Then I tried to take away some sweetness by adding more transparent and opaque colors and another darker print for more contrast. Still I wanted to keep a rather soft and tender impression.

Dann habe ich versucht mit weiteren durchsichtigen und opaken Stoffen etwas die Süsse zu nehmen und noch mehr Kontrast mit einem dunkleren Stoff zu erreichen. Aber es sollte doch noch immer ein weicher, zarter Gesamteindruck sein.

Con l'addizione di più colori e più contrasto ho tentato di rendere il tutto meno dolce, mantenendo però sempre un impressione delicata.

I really liked the shine and color play of the organza when folded. This is what brought me to sew together strips of fabric with folded organza in between.

Weil mir Glanz und Farbenspiel des lose gefalteten Organza so gut gefielen, habe ich mich entschieden,  gefaltete Streifen davon zwischen undurchsichtigen Stoffbändern zu nähen.

Siccome mi piaceva la lucentezza e il gioco di colori dell'organza piegata, decisi di cucirne alcune tra bande di stoffe opache.

Also I thought of adding shades of colors by covering some fabric with one layer of transparent fabric.

Um weitere Nuancen zu erreichen habe ich teilweise den undurchsichtigen Stoff mit einer Lage Organza überdeckt.

Per avere più sfumature ho anche ricoperto alcune bande di stoffa opaca con uno strato di organza.

I was kind of happy so far. I especially liked how the folded organza stood up against the flat fabric. At this time it was clear to me that I had to do something with this strata fabric. Just stripes seemed too little, just horizontal and vertical blocks too clumsy. Maybe some striped paper would help me find a good layout?

So weit, so gut. Mir gefiel vor allem, wie der gefaltete Organza sich etwas aufrichtete. Nun wollte ich also mit diesem neu entstandenen Stoff etwas gestalten. Aber wie? Blosse Streifen schien mir zu simpel, einfach senkrecht und waagrecht verlaufende Blöcke zu grob. Vielleicht würde mir etwas liniertes Papier bei der Suche weiterhelfen?

Tutto bene finora. Sopratutto mi piaceva come l'organza piegata si rialzava sopra la stoffa piatta. Ma come proseguire? Solo strisce mi sembrava troppo poco, solo blocchi orizzontali e verticali troppo goffo. Forse dei test con della carta rigata sarebbero d'aiuto a decidere?

I had to think of my quilt Bali that I pretty much liked and decided to go with the same design. So I sewed and cut more striped fabric into triangles.

Hier kam mir mein Quilt Bali in den Sinn. Dieses Design hatte mir recht gut gefallen und so habe ich weiter Streifen zu Stoff genäht und in Dreiecke geschnitten.

A questo punto mi venne in mente il mio quilt Bali, che mi piaceva abbastanza. Decisi di usare lo stesso disegno e continuai a cucire striscia a striscia e a tagliare triangoli.

My pieces were getting pretty small at this stage. Was this rendering what I was hoping for? More about it next time.

Meine Stücke wurden inzwischen ziemlich klein. Ob ich so das erwünschte erreichen würde? Mehr darüber nächstes Mal.
