Dresda // 2

This is the design for the top. The dark fabric that looks almost black is in reality a dark bordeaux red. As usual I did not make any calculations about how much fabric will be lost by the seam allowances. So I just added stripes on the go (many more than expected!). Because I found it difficult to keep straight left and right borders when working with diagonal stripes I marked them with masking tape on my design wall as guidelines. The design is pretty simple and straight forward and yet more difficult than anticipated. I kept having trouble defining the length of the next stripe and keeping the whole thing in a rectangular format. Even with the guidelines I had a hard time to keep the bottom at the same width as I started at the top. At the end I had to do a good amount of trimming to get it all in the desired format. I did that on my hardwood floor using the planks as guidelines. Big relief when the job was done!

Und so wird Dresda aussehen. Der dunkle Stoff, der auf den Fotos zum Teil fast schwarz ausschaut, ist in Wirklichkeit ein dunkles Bordeaux. Wie immer habe ich die Stoffmenge, die durch die Nahtzugaben verbraucht wird nicht berechnet. Statt dessen fügte ich einfach immer neue Streifen dazu (einige mehr als erwartet!). Da ich es schwierig fand, durch die diagonale Anordnung den rechten und linken Rand gerade zu halten, habe ich die Ränder mit Malerband gekennzeichnet. Eigentlich ist das Design ja ziemlich simpel aber doch anspruchsvoller als ich dachte. Ich hatte Schwierigkeiten, die Länge des nächsten Streifen zu definieren und beim annähen erwies sich der eine oder andere manchmal doch als zu kurz. Und trotz den Markierungen mit Malerband ist es mir nicht immer gelungen, die Ränder links und rechts gerade zu halten und so ist das untere Ende oft breiter als nötig geworden. Am Ende musste ich ziemlich wegschneiden, um das gewünschte rechteckige Format zu erreichen. Da waren mir die Planken meines Parkettbodens eine grosse Hilfe. Ich war recht erleichtert, als das Ding dann schlussendlich fertig war!

Ed eccovi il disegno del top. La stoffa che appare quasi nera é in verità di un rosso scuro. Come sempre non ho calcolato quanta stoffa verrà mangiata dalle cuciture. Invece strada facendo ho sempre aggiunto delle strisce, infatti tante più che avevo immaginato. Il disegno mi pareva abbastanza semplice ma lavorando con strisce diagonali ho trovato difficile mantenere i lati dritti. E anche definire la lunghezza della prossima striscia da aggiungere non è stato così semplice come pensavo. Nonostante le marcature alla parete non sono riuscita a mantenere il formato rettangolare e alla fine la base è risultata più larga di come ero partita. Quindi ho dovuto tagliare via un bel po' ma grazie alle asse del mio parquet sono comunque riuscita a ricevere il risultato desiderato. A lavoro finalmente compiuto ho tirato un bel sospiro di rilievo!
