Hexago ! // 1

End last year I started a new quilt. This time I wanted to try english paper piecing. I'm going to show you how I did it. I printed hundreds of hexagons on plain printer paper and cut them out (great while watching tv or so). These will be used to sew the fabric hexagons. I also prepared a larger hexagon template using sturdy cardboard. This one I used to cut out the hexagons from the fabric. As for the fabric I used a print I had in my stash added by recycled white shirts. I did not have a final plan in mind with regard to size or design. I just started by cutting out several hexagon fabrics, sewing them, cutting more, sewing more, etc. Here you see the cutting. Next post will be about sewing the hexagons. Oh, I forgot to mention that at least the top will all be hand sewing. How I love starting a new project!

Letzten Dezember habe ich einen neuen Quilt gestartet. Ich wollte die English Paper Piecing Methode ausprobieren. Ich zeig euch wie ich vorgegangen bin. Ich habe auf meinem Heimdrucker lauter Hexagons ausgedruckt. Diese werde ich für das Nähen der Stoffhexagons verwenden. Ein grösseres Exemplar habe ich aus Karton hergestellt. Dieses verwende ich, um die Stoffhexagons zu schneiden. Als Stoff habe ich einen bedruckten aus meinem Vorrat gewählt und ihn mit weissen Herrenhemden ergänzt. Ich hatte weder eine bestimmte Endgrösse für den Quilt, noch ein bestimmtes Design im Sinn. Habe einfach begonnen, Hexagons aus Stoff auszuschneiden, diese zu nähen, weitere zu schneiden, zu nähen etc. Hier seht ihr den Schneidevorgang, nächstes Mal zeige ich euch, wie ich die einzelnen Hexagons genäht habe. Übrigens, zumindest das Top wird ganz von Hand genäht werden. Ich liebe die Startphase eines neuen Projektes!

In dicembre ho incominciato un nuovo quilt. Volevo provare il metodo english paper piecing. Vi mostro come ho fatto. Ho stampato tanti esagoni su carta comune. Questi li utilizzo per cucire gli esagoni di stoffa. Ho preparato un esemplare più grande di cartone. Questo l'uso per tagliare gli esagoni dalla stoffa. Come stoffa ho scelto un cotone stampato dalla mia scorta e ho aggiunto delle camicie bianche riciclate. Non avevo una grandezza o un disegno specifico in mente riguardo al quilt. Ho incominciato a tagliare e cucire gli esagoni, poi ancora tagliare e cucire esagoni, poi ancora... Qui vedete come tagliavo, la prossima volta vi mostro come ho cucito gli esagoni. Tutto il top sarà cucito a mano! Come adoro la fase iniziale di un nuovo progetto.
