Dresda // 3

After the hassle with the top the back was quickly sewn and soon the quilting could begin.

Dresda // 2

This is the design for the top. The dark fabric that looks almost black is in reality a dark bordeaux red. As usual I did not make any calculations about how much fabric will be lost by the seam allowances. So I just added stripes on the go (many more than expected!). Because I found it difficult to keep straight left and right borders when working with diagonal stripes I marked them with masking tape on my design wall as guidelines. The design is pretty simple and straight forward and yet more difficult than anticipated. I kept having trouble defining the length of the next stripe and keeping the whole thing in a rectangular format. Even with the guidelines I had a hard time to keep the bottom at the same width as I started at the top. At the end I had to do a good amount of trimming to get it all in the desired format. I did that on my hardwood floor using the planks as guidelines. Big relief when the job was done!

Dresda // 1

While I'm happily handquilting Lazzo I've started a new quilt. This time I plan to make diagonal stripes. Since I bought about 80% of the fabric I'm going to use during my recent stay in Dresden I'm calling this one Dresda. This is the fabric purchased in Dresden but I'm going to add some yellow tones.

Lazzo // 7

After thinking forth and back on how to quilt this one I've decided to do it again by hand. As with Hexago ! this is going to take its time. But not quite as much since here I'm using embroidery thread which allows for larger stitches. Plus I plan to only highlight some areas instead of doing an all over quilting. I really look forward to it. This work is so relaxing plus the quilt on my lap keeps me warm during these cold winter evenings.

Lazzo // 6

This top is sewed, the sandwich done, the quilting can begin. I forgot to take a picture of the back. You'll see it later.

Lazzo // 5

Once everything was cut up I started to arrange them on my design wall, shifting around until I was satisfied by the end result. There are so many possibilities that at a certain point you just have to call it a day.

Lazzo // 4

In this step I cut up all twenty blocks through the center patch into four parts. I have to admit that I had to take a deep breath before cutting through the blocks. I guess you already know what will happen next.

Lazzo // 3

The blocks are done and ready for the next step. Wow, this quilt is busy and it will get even busier! Please excuse the bad quality of the pictures. I'm having troubles with the light.

Lazzo // 2

Blocks, blocks, blocks. I needed to sew 20 blocks with minimum measurements of 40 x 40 cm. They will then be arranged 4 by 5.

Lazzo // 1

In September I started a new quilt. This was my fabric choice. I planned on having lots of white and grey shades, a hint of black and some bold colors such as yellow, orange, purple and greens. After a while I realized that the quantity of white and grey shades I had was too little and so the quilt is becoming much more colorful than anticipated. What the heck! This is going to be a bold masculine quilt that will stand up to every situation.
I started this quilt at a workshop I joined here (my first quilting course ever!). The name of this quilt is inspired by the last name of the lady that runs the workshops. Thank you Esther for two inspiring evenings!

Ach was soll's!

Lotsa Dots // 7 and finished !

I've also finished Lotsa Dots. What a cheerful quilt this has become. I enjoyed very much making it. The main challenge was to cut and patch the fabric in order to show full dots along the seams. I love how the spiral quilting turned out. And I'm totally fond of the back. I've been working on this quilt for three months. I first posted about it here. This is a heavy and big enough quilt for keeping two snuggling people warm.

Hexago ! // 15 and finished !

Hexago ! is finished! I first posted about this quilt here. I've been working at this quilt for ten months. It involved a lot of hand sewing that I did mainly during the evenings. Top is completely hand pieced and so is the quilting done by hand. It measures 181 x 143 cm and is the perfect quilt for taking a nap.
